Despite my serious face I am very very happy with how this dress turned out! I had been dreaming of a white maxi linen dress for a long time…over a year at least…since I bought my fabric from La Fab Tessuti last August. Choosing the pattern was a no-brainer for me… I wanted something that could accommodate the lack of draping linen has and convey a minimal style. Not to mention I didn’t want to fuss with adjustments! So I turned to my trusty 1609 Jiffy by Simplicity…a reproduction of a 60’s pattern I made before in white and in red. I simply lengthened the pattern and cut the front on the fold.

A dispetto della mia espressione seria sono davvero contenta di questo vestito! Sognavo un vestito lungo in lino da tempo…da almeno un’anno…infatti ho comprato la stoffa da La Fab Tessuti lo scorso agosto. La scelta del cartamodello e’ stata immediata… volevo qualcosa che si adattasse alla ‘rigidita” del lino e che avesse una linea minimal. E poi non avevo alcuna voglia di fare modifiche! Quindi  ho usato il fidato 1609 Jiffy by Simplicity…una riproduzione di un modello anni 60’s che ho realizzato gia’ due volte in bianco e in rosso. Ho semplicemente allungato l’orlo e tagliato il davanti sulla ripiegatura della stoffa.

When it came to deciding on the neckline…design paralysis stroke… I really wasn’t sure what to do…initially thought of a V neck…of course I forgot to look through my digital pinboards (does it happen to you?)….I thought of a boat neck…a long time favorite…but I didn’t want to reduce the shoulder width and was afraid I would feel too constrained around my neck if I didn’t. Eventually, I used what some eagle-eyed seamstresses may have already recognized…a Deer & Doe Datura without the bias edge. For some reason the left-hand side has a tendency to stick out rather than lie flat on the neckline…it baffles me!

Quando si e’ trattato di decidere come disegnare lo scollo… e’ stata paralisi totale… non sapevo assolutamente cosa fare…all’inizio avevo pensato ad uno scollo a V…ovviamente ho dimenticato di guardare la mia bacheca su Pinterest…ho pensato allo scollo a barca…uno dei miei preferiti…ma non avevo voglia di ridurre la larghezza della spalla e avevo paura che se non l’avessi fatto la scollatura sarebbe stata troppo alta. Alla fine ho usato quello che alcune di voi avranno gia’ riconosciuto… lo scollo del Deer & Doe Datura privo di sbieco. Per qualche motivo il lato sinistro ha la tendenza di rimanere all’infuori invece che aderire al collo…un mistero!

And now for a disclosure on my pictures….as you may have noticed I took them myself with a tripod and remote… I got so frustrated of not having posted any pictures of my numerous makes and on being dependent that despite the less than perfect lighting I went ahead. I am pretty stubborn like that! It was way too hot to go outside. Clearly I have a lot to learn! But at least I took several pictures. Thanks for being patient with me.

E per finire il restroscena delle foto…avrete notato che le ho fatte da sola con un treppiede e il telecomanto… ero talmente frustrata per non aver piu’ pubblicato foto di tutti i capi cuciti di recente e della dipendenza che nonostante la luce non fosse perfetta ho fatto le foto. Sono piuttosto cocciuta! Faceva troppo caldo per andare fuori. Ovviamente ho ancora molto da imparare! Ma almeno ho fatto un po’ di foto. Vi ringrazio per la pazienza.
