Hello! My birthday was on Easter day…I had made plans to travel and celebrate. Despite the changed circumstances…I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to make a new top…and bake a cake :o)
As it’s often the case with me and my sewing process, inspiration strikes all of a sudden. I have been meaning to make since my first version in 2018. I don’t know about you but it takes me ages to decide which pattern to make and fabric to use…especially when I need to combine scraps…until I get a urge to make! In the meantime, I keep on wondering whether I chose the wrong project, forgot about a different pattern I wanted to make or didn’t see a different fabric that would have been better. It’s a pretty chaotic creative process, don’t you think?
Ciao!
It’s a pattern I found on Dutch (or was it German?) Fashion style magazine back in 2017. Reading back my Instagram post notes I realized it had required quite some fit adjustments back then. Clearly, the second time it was a breeze…
I really love this top. I love the simple geometric cutout that lets you play with fabric and scraps (as you may notice I had to piece together two scraps to make the side panel). And I find the neckline really flattering.
I am also very happy I got to use up and find the perfect project for these fabric scraps…a very precious Atelier Brunette Cosmic Blue and a light Italian wool suiting. If you’re curious, you can see the original makes Margot Blouse – République du Chiffon & Cosmic Blue – Atélier Brunette and Melting pot blouse: Alma Sewaholic + Twiggy + Chic Birdy Kit by Klo
I got so into making this top…I made two more in the meantime…and even went as far as recreating the top from my own measurements as a way to practice my patternmaking or reverse-engineering skills and test my own bloc.
Would you be interested in a short tutorial on drafting this top? As you can see on the Fashion style review, you could even make it into a dress.
Cute top – lots of design options with those seams. Enjoy it!

I really like this pattern and wonder if you can tell me where to purchase it? Did you complete a tutorial?
Thanks –

Hi Wendy, I didn’t get around to write the tutorial. However if you have a fitting darted top, it’s as easy as moving the dart towards the neckline and then continuing the line towards the waist https://mellysews.com/rotate-darts-sewing-patterns/ Do you see what I mean?
