Yaletown Dress and Blouse is the new Sewaholic Pattern. I tested the pattern back in May…you can nearly see my goosebumps! I made the pattern straight from the envelope only grading up (or was it down?) the armscye as I like it more fitted. As you can probably notice from the pictures the sleeves are slightly gathered. I used a true gem: vintage Italian fabric I scored last year and I used it all up!
So why this face then? Well apart from not being good at posing… I don’t like the design on me. Maybe it’s the fabric color or the texture combined with a loose fitting blouse, but the pictures confirmed what the mirror had already told me. It’s a pity because the blouse turned out perfectly from a sewing point of view. It’s perfectly drafted! I didn’t interface the neckline yet it held up perfectly. Tasia’s versions are so much better. It broke my heart when I had to tell her that (she asks a specific question on that and I didn’t want to lie). But not all is lost: the Yaletown blouse is now with my sister who likes it a lot and wears it so much better than me. So it was an unplanned gift! Yeah.
Since sewing is not only about successes, tell me: did you ever make a garment just to realize it wasn’t for you?
E allora cos’e’ quella faccia?
I made so many garments that weren’t really ‘me’… I have a huge pile at home that I could show you! LOL
I tend to agree with you that this colour might not be the best for your complexion – it kindda washes you out a bit…
I think this is part of the challenge of sewing, you can envision something in your head, but the final results can surprise you, in good and not so good ways… but that’s the beauty of the thing!

Thanks for your honest feedback, Virginie. I really appreciate that.
Sorry to hear you have a pile of garments you don’t wear.
I do have a hard time envisioning finished garments sometimes…especially when I get carried away by nice prints!

Hi Silvia!
To answer your question -yes, I did!) My last boho skirt is the case example of such incongruity between me and the skirt))) So -an unexpected gift for my friend (and neighbour). Thanx God ( or our parents))) we’ve got the same measurements, only she is a bit taller – key words! The skirt itself is ok, it’s not just mine -too much fabric on me (and my height is 158) .
Well, now I know))))) and we both are happy)
As for the blouse -it’s lovely and looks romantic! It’s great that we have sisters and friends to present with such gifts, when thnigs don’t work sometimes)

Hi Olga!. It’s fantastic you could give your skirt to your neighbor.
I am also on the short side (1,60) so I understand what you mean. I prefer more fitted garments for that reason.

So glad your beautiful blouse found a great home with your sister! It is a cute style and the fabric print is fantastic. I often end up making things that I just don’t like on me. I get seduced by a photo or how it looks on someone else, but after making it and trying it on, I realize it doesn’t suit me. Maxi skirt, be gone!
