Please tell me I’m not the only one who takes the opportunity of a trip to go fabric shopping. I was recently in Brussels and I couldn’t pass it on.

Though Brussels is not what I would call a Sewing Mecca, there were certainly enough stores to keep me busy. I only had time for three ;o)

Per favore ditemi che non sono la sola a cogliere l’opportunità di un viaggio per comprare stoffa. Recentemente sono stata a Bruxelles e non ho potuto resistere.

Anche se Bruxelles non è quella che chiamerei una Mecca del cucito, ci sono sicuramente abbastanza negozi per tenermi occupata. Ho solo avuto tempo di visitarne ;o)

Le Chien Vert

Despite having lived in Brussels for several years, I had never been to Le Chien Vert I loved this place. It’s located by the canal in what feels like a former warehouse. It’s on two floors with a wide selection of apparel, quilting and furnishing fabrics plus notions. If you go don’t miss the ‘puces’ area…that’s where the bargains are! I recommend you take a full tour and then go back.

Staff was friendly and most importantly fabric is conveniently arranged by type and color…so it makes it a lot easier to look at and less overwhelming!

I got some waterproof fabric for a coat, lining and some trims …these were quite expensive…and I didn’t check the price beforehand! So I ended up spending more on trims than on lining!

Recently they opened up an online store. Unfortunately they don’t sell all fabrics they have in store and shipping abroad is on the expensive side.

Anche se ho vissuto a Bruxelles per molti anni non ero mai andata prima da Le Chien Vert. L’ho trovato fantastico. Si trova lungo il canale in quella che sembra essere una vecchia fabbrica. Si sviluppa su due piani ed offre un’ampia selezione di stoffe d’abbigliamento, patchwork, arredamento e merceria. Se andate non perdetevi la zona ‘mercatino delle pulci’…è li’ che trovate le offerte. Vi consiglio di farvi un primo giro e poi tornarci di nuovo.

Il personale è gentile e, ancor più importante, la stoffa è ordinata per tipo e colore…vi sentirete meno sopraffatte dalla quantità e riuscirete a dare meglio un’occhiata!

Ho comprato della stoffa impermeabile per uno spolverino, della fodera e della passamaneria…questa era piuttosto cara…e non ho chiesto il prezzo prima! Quindi ho speso più per la passamaneria che per la fodera!

Recentemente hanno aperto un negozio online. Purtroppo non vendono tutte le stoffe che hanno in negozio e la spedizione all’estero è piuttosto cara.

La Maison Dorée

La Maison Dorée is a more traditional apparel and furnishing fabric store. It looks high-quality, e.g. perfect for special occasions.

I never bought any fabric there…but they also sell Burda and Ottobre magazines…and I couldn’t resist getting the Burda special issue on 60s fashion.

La Maison Dorée è un negozio di stoffa per abbigliamento e arredamento più tradizionale. La stoffa sembra di ottima qualità…perfetta per occasioni speciali.

Non ne ho mai comprata…ma vendono anche Burda e Ottobre…non ho resistito e ho preso il numero speciale di Burda sugli Anni 60.

Veritas

Veritas is a chain store selling crafting notions (sewing, knitting embroidery), patterns/magazines, some quilting cottons as well as clothing accessories.

Here you can find La Maison Victor magazine and some cute notions (love their Sew Be Do brand).

They have several locations including Rue Neuve (the main shopping street).

Unfortunately their online store only ships to Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherands.

Last but not least…a sweet gift from a friend…you can’t visit Belgium and leave without chocolates!

By the way, if you are in Belgium don’t miss Antwerp for its fabric stores (also a lovely town)…it’s on my list next time I go!

Veritas è una catena che vende articoli per manualità (cucito, maglia e ricamo), cartamodelli/riviste e cotone per patchwork oltre ad accessori per abbigliamento.

Qui trovate La Maison Victor e degli articoli di merceria deliziosi (mi piace moltissimo la linea Sew Be Do).

Ci sono vari punti vendita compreso uno sulla Rue Neuve (la via principale dei negozi).

Purtroppo il negozio online spedisce solo in Belgio, Olanda e Lussemburgo.

E per finire…un dolce regalo da un’amica…non puoi visitare il Belgio e non portare dei cioccolatini!

A proposito, se andate in Belgio non perdetevi Anversa e i suoi negozi di stoffa (è anche una città carina da visitare)…è sulla mia lista per il prossimo viaggio!
