It’s no secret I love fitted tops. When I saw this pattern on April issue of La Mia Boutique I thought it would be a nice option for a very precious raw silk I have in my stash. But I thought I test garment was absolutely necessary…that’s how I ended up with this top!

Non è un segreto che mi piacciono i top aderenti. Quando ho visto questo modello sul numero di aprile de La Mia Boutique ho pensato sarebbe stato adatto a della seta cruda che ho da parte da tempo. Ma prima era assolutamente necessario fare una prova…ed è così che ho creato questo top!

If you like the contrast piping…let me just tell you it was an afterthought! When I put the top against my skin I didn’t like it at all…it was the same color as my skin…with polka dots added! The contrast bias absolutely changed the look…it’s crazy what a small amount of color can do!

Se mi seguite da qualche anno vi ricorderete i pantaloni Tofino di Sewaholic. Mi rimaneva ancora abbastanza stoffa per questo top.
Se vi piace lo sbieco a contrasto…sappiate che è stata una scelta dell’ultim’ora! Quando ho provato il top sulla pelle non mi piaceva affatto…era esattamente lo stesso colore della mia pelle…con i pois aggiunti! Grazie allo sbieco il risultato è cambiato del tutto…incredibile come una striscetta di colore cambi le cose!

And now for the sewing details. The pattern runs big for my taste. I chose the smallest size (42) which is actually my LMB size…but I had to take the top in at the side seams. I wish all patterns included finished measurements or at least the amount of ease…I’m just too lazy to measure the flat pattern and add it all up!
Fit-wise upon wearing the top I realized I needed a prominent shoulder blades adjustment and possibly should have let out the side seams/lowered the armhole to get rid of the pulling. I can’t feel any of these as I wear it, but I noticed the issue on the pictures. Fitting your own back is always a challenge!

Ma passiamo ai dettagli sartoriali. La taglia è un po’ larga per i miei gusti. Ho scelto la taglia più piccola (42) che è anche la mia taglia nei modelli de LMB…ma ho dovuto stringerlo ai fianchi. Magari i cartamodelli includessero le misure finite del capo o almeno la vestibilità…sono troppo pigra per misurare il cartamodello e fare la somma!
Per quanto riguarda il top su di me, mi sono resa conto che avrei dovuto modificare il cartamodello a causa delle mie scapole sporgenti e probabilmente avrei dovuto allentare le cuciture laterali/abbassare il giro manica per evitare le righe. Indossandolo non lo sento stretto, ma l’ho scoperto dalle foto. E’ sempre difficile giudicare la vestibilità di un capo sul dietro quando si lavora da soli!

It’s the first time I saw a garment where the zip faces downwards. I like that! I was also super happy that the V-neck matches perfectly!

All in all it’s a nice and easy pattern. If I were to make it again, I would probably add vertical darts at the front too. Making this top was quite useful because I decided I won’t use my raw silk for it after all…I’m thinking Pendrell blouse would be nicer…but I need to make a test beforehand 😉

Do you also make trial garments before cutting into your precious fabrics?  

E’ la prima volta che cucio un capo con la lampo verso il basso…e mi piace! Sono anche molto contenta di essere riuscinta a far combaciare perfettamente lo scollo a V!

Trovo che sia un bel modello e che sia facile da cucire. Se dovessi rifarlo, forse aggiungerei delle pinces verticali sul davanti. Comunque, fare questa prova è stato utile perché ho deciso che userò un altro modello per la mia seta. Sto pensando a Pendrell…ma devo prima fare una prova 😉
