It’s no secret: what I love about sewing and blogging is the community and social aspect, and that great feeling you get when wearing something you made yourself.
That’s why I was so thrilled when I got invited to one of the biggest crafts fairs in Europe and the biggest in Italy: Abilmente Fair in Vicenza! Seeing my name on the participants list gave me butterflies in my stomach (available in Italian). Though I have teaching experience I have never done anything like this.
From October 16th to 19th, I’ll be holding workshops around Aime comme Marie patterns. For me it will be a great opportunity to meet people who are into sewing or are just considering taking it up…and sew all day long!
What makes it all even more exciting is that I won’t be there alone. Anna from Paunnet, Sasha from Fruits, flowers&clouds and Annika from Naeh-Connection will be there. And designers Pauline from Pauline Alice, Éléonore from Deer and Doe, Marte from Compagnie M. and, obviously, Marie from Aime comme Marie.
I am really happy to be finally meeting them and I hope participants will be as enthusiastic as I am to see that there are a lot of options when it comes to garment sewing patterns these days. This may come as a surprise, but except for Marfy, the indie designer scene is non-existent in Italy. And not everybody is confident enough to sew patterns in another language.
Unfortunately, I know that due to the sheer distance many of you won’t be able to attend, but if you are there I’d love to meet you. We will be at Padiglione 7 Moda Fai da Te.

Non è un segreto: quello che più mi piace del cucito e di avere un blog è il senso di comunità che c´è attorno e quella fantastica sensazione di indossare un capo fatto con le proprie mani.
Per questo sono stata davvero contentissima quando mi hanno invitato a partecipare ad Abilmente a Vicenza. Vedere il mio nome nella lista dei partecipanti mi ha provocato una grande emozione, come avere le farfalle nello stomaco. Anche se ho esperienza d’insegnamento, non ho mai fatto nulla del genere.
Dal 16 al 19 ottobre terrò degli Atelier di cucito usando i cartamodelli di Aime comme Marie. Questa sarà per me una fantastica opportunità di conoscere altre appassionate di cucito o persone che vorrebbero lanciarsi in questo hobby…e passare tutto il giorno a cucire!
E la cosa fantastica è che non sarò lì da sola. Ci saranno anche Anna di Paunnet, Sasha di Fruits, flowers&clouds e Annika di Naeh-Connection. E poi le designer Pauline di Pauline Alice, Éléonore di Deer and Doe, Marte di Compagnie M. e, ovviamente, Marie di Aime comme Marie.
Sono davvero felice di conoscerle finalmente e spero che i partecipanti alla fiera saranno entusiasti quanto me di sapere che ormai c’è molta scelta di cartamodelli per l’abbigliamento.
Purtroppo so che per ragioni di distanza molte di voi non potranno esserci, ma se riuscite venite a trovarmi. Saremo al Padiglione 7 Moda Fai da Te.

Thanks for your wishes Sue! In Italy you can find Burda envelope patterns pretty easily and in some rare cases (I only saw them in one store) some Big 4. I believe those are translated but I am not 100% sure. Other than that and Marfy, it’s essentially magazines: La Mia Boutique, Burda and a now defunct attempt to publish Patrones Spanish magazine. Sewing accessories (creative sewing as they call it in Italian!) seems to be a bigger market than garment sewing.
