This past weekend I spent a few days in Rome for a wedding (more on that in an upcoming post) and I couldn’t miss this opportunity to visit a local haberdashery shop simply called “LA MERCERIA” dal 1957 idee per te e la tua casa (The Haberdashery store from 1957 providing ideas for yourself and the home). Though not as glamorous as M&J Trimming in NYC, the place is filled with trims of all sorts, buttons, sewing supplies, yarn, knitting and embroidery supplies. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it.

Lo scorso fine settimana sono stata a Roma per un matrimonio (ve ne parlero’ in un prossimo post) e non mi sono fatta scappare l’opportunita’ di andare in una conosciuta merceria “LA MERCERIA” dal 1957 idee per te e la tua casa. Sicuramente questo posto non e’ alla moda come M&J Trimming a New York ma vanta un ampio assortimento di passamanerie di ogni tipo, bottoni, forniture per sarti, lana, articoli da ricamo e per la maglia. Non potevo credere ai miei occhi.

You should have seen me staring at the shop windows and then gazing at all the trims when I stepped in. Not to mention people looking at me when I took pictures of the store!

Mi avreste dovuta vedere quando guardavo le vetrine e poi quando mi sono messa ad ammirare tutte le passamanerie all’interno. Per non parlare delle persone che mi guardavano stupite quando facevo foto al negozio!

Eventually I came out only with these trims I will use for my Burda Swing Dress 08/2012 #133. Wasn’t I very diligent?

If you are ever in Rome and want to see something local, I highly recommend visiting the area known as Marconi/Fermi. Off the tourist track, but within easy reach with public trasport, Viale Marconi is full of shops and places to eat…like the super popular Citta’ del Gusto where you can even take cooking classes…I could spend an entire blog post on farmer’s market and food in the area…so just drop me a line if you are going.

Alla fine ho comprato solo queste passamanerie che usero’ per il vestito Burda Swing Dress 08/2012 #133. Sono stata brava, no?

Se per caso siete a roma e volete vedere qualcosa di tipico, vi consiglio di fare un giro per il quartiere Marconi/Fermi. Non e’ una zona turistica ma e’ facilmente raggiungibile con i mezzi pubblici. A Viale Marconi ci sono tantissimi negozi e ristoranti…e anche la famosa Citta’ del Gusto dove si possono seguire corsi di cucina… potrei fare un intero post sul mercato  e sul cibo nel quartiere…quindi se andate contattatemi pure.
