What do you think about my French flair? As much as I try I don’t have the flair of one of my favorite French bloggers is Bee Made …she’s just so effortlessly chic

But at least I can say my top is French: both the Bianca blouse and this cotton/silk fabric are. Both were stashed away for the past 2 years…so in a way it was the perfect mix. The fabric is from Fleur du Tissu…while their website is not very modern they sometimes have things I like. Recently, I saw they started collaborating with La Mia Boutique so you can find there some of the fabrics I posted in my last review. I can’t wait to see them live again at Bergamo Creattiva next week…because you know I need more fabric.

Ma almeno posso dire che la mia blusa e’ francese: perche’ sia la Blusa Bianca che la stoffa, un misto cotone/seta, lo sono. Entrambi sono stati messi da parte per 2 anni…quindi era destino che rimanessero insieme. La stoffa viene da Fleur du Tissu…anche se il loro sito non e’ dei piu’ moderni a volte hanno stoffe che mi piacciono. Ho visto che hanno cominciato a collaborare con La Mia Boutique e, ad esempio, potete trovare alcune delle stoffe dell’ultimo numero. Non vedo l’ora di fare un salto al loro stand la settimana prossima a Bergamo Creattiva…perché sapete che ho bisogno di altra stoffa.

Back to the pattern. If you look at the line drawings you’ll notice it’s a pretty basic blouse (I lengthened the sleeves) with bust darts, a shirt collar and a straight joke. So, why did I get such a basic pattern when I could have simply used one of the hundreds similar patterns I have in my stash? There are 2 reasons: PRICE: back when it was released in 2015 the pdf was free (and the pattern was about 12 euros) and STYLING: if you look at the website you can’t help but notice the beautifully crafted styling of everything Lisa and her team make. She’s a pro. You can’t help but love what she makes. That woman really knows how to create a successful brand.

Now, having said this…I find the current price 17.9 euros (nearly 20 USD) to be too much. I have to be honest, while I appreciate the effort put in creating a strong brand with a beautiful image, and bow to that…I am also very pragmatic and like to look beyond the hype. Content is important, too. So my approach generally is…look at line drawings, compare with patterns I have in my stash and see if I can manage to achieve that look. I bought so much during the years that I try to be more conservative. I’m curious: what’s your approach to patterns?

Ma torniamo al cartamodello. Se guardate il disegno tecnico notere che si tratta di un cartamodello piuttosto semplice (ho allungato le maniche) con pinces sul seno, colletto camicia e uno sprone dritto sul dietro. E allora vi chiederete: perché hai preso un cartamodello così semplice quando avresti potuto usarne uno delle centinaia che hai? Ci sono due motivi: IL PREZZO: quando è uscito il cartamodello nel 2015 il pdf era gratuito (e quello cartaceo costava circa 12 euro) e l´IMMAGINE: impossibile non rimanere affascinati dall’aspetto del sito e delle creazioni che Lisa e il suo team realizzano. E’ una vera professionista. Impossibile non amare quello che fa. Quella ragazza sa davvero come creare un brand di successo.

Detto questo…trovo che il prezzo attuale dei cartamodelli 17,9 euro sia troppo elevato. Devo essere onesta…capisco e apprezzo lo sforzo necessiaro per creare un brand di successo con una bellissima immagine e la ammiro profondamente…ma sono anche una presona molto pragmatica e mi piace guardare oltre le mode. Anche il contenuto è importante. Quindi il mio approccio generalmente è il seguente…dare un’occhiata ai disegni tecnici, paragonarli con i modelli che ho già e vedere se riesco a creare qualcosa del genere. Ho comprato talmente tanti cartamodelli in questi anni che cerco di avere un approccio più conservativo. Sono curiosa: qual è il vostro approccio con i cartamodelli?

To go back to my make and the pattern…the fit is quite loose so I took in the sleeves and side seams slightly. I also went up a size at the shoulders (a 38 if I remember correctly) as I came to realize mine are quite broad…and that had been the cause of many ill-fitting sleeves

As you may have noticed the fabric is slightly see through…so I went ahead an made a knit sleeveless top…just because I had a matching jersey in my stash 😉

Per tornare alla blusa e al modello…come si vede è ampio quindi l´ho stretto leggermente sui fianchi e maniche. Ho anche scelto la taglia più grande (38 credo) perché mi sono resa conto che le mie spalle sono abbastanza ampie…e che questo potrebbe essere il motivo per cui, nel mio caso, spesso le maniche non cadono correttamente

Forse avrete notato che la stoffa è leggermente trasparente…ho approfittato per cucire una canotta in maglina…dato che avevo proprio una stoffa del colore adatto 😉
