This is a pattern with a story to tell! It all started with Paco Peralta releasing this gorgeous structured design a year ago…

Shortly afterwards I came across a fabulous sparkly white denim on Supercut…and I couldn’t resist (sorry it’s hard to photograph).

and then… the pattern and the fabric lingered in my drawer for a year!

Eventually a few weeks ago, I got my act together and took out the fabric…and my headaches started….glitter started falling all over my sewing room. But I couldn’t just throw it away…it was so beautiful. So I pressed on.

Poco dopo ho trovato un fantastico tessuto jeans bianco con pailletes da Supercut…e non ho resistito (scusate ma è difficile da fotografare)

e poi…il modello e la stoffa sono rimasti nel cassetto per un anno!

Finalmente qualche settimana fa mi sono decisa e ho tirato fuori la stoffa…ed è iniziato il mal di testa…le paillettes hanno riempito la mia stanza del cucito. Ma non potevo buttarla via…era così bella. E sono andata avanti.

In the meantime I altered the pattern design to remove the button overlap, shorten it and reduce the pocket size (to prevent it from peeking out of the jacket)

All seemed to go well…until I started to assemble the sleeves. You see the pattern comes without instructions and generally this would not be a problem…except if you start thinking you need to align seams.
I’m not exaggerating if I tell you I unpicked and ironed those sleeves 10 times at least…boy, the fabric quality is really good! No poor quality fabric could withstand as much!

Nel frattempo ho modificato il cartamodello eliminando l’abbottonatura, accorciandolo e riducendo la dimensione delle tasche (per evitare che fossero più lunghe della giacca).

Sembrava che tutto andasse bene…fino a quando non ho dovuto cucire le maniche. Quello che dovete sapere è che questo cartamodello ho ha le instruzioni, ma questo non è un problema…tranne quando pensi di dover far combaciare le cucitture.

Non esagero se vi dico che ho scucito e stirato le maniche almeno 10 volte… mi sono detta che la qualità della stoffa è fantastica! Sicuramente una di scarsa qualità non avrebbe mai resistito!

I WAS DESPERATE! I WAS READY TO SETTLE FOR A GATHERED SLEEVE…I EVEN WENT AHEAD A CUT ANOTHER COAT JUST TO START ALL OVER WITH A BLANK SLATE.

…AND THEN I DID WHAT I HARDLY EVER DO…CRIED FOR HELP TO BOTH PACO AND JANELLE

Without Paco and Janelle my Cassock Coat would have ended up in the trash!

ERO DISPERATA! ERO PRONTA AD ACCONTENTARMI DI AVERE DELLE MANICHE ARRICCATE…SONO ARRIVATA AL PUNTO DI TAGLIARNE UNA SECONDA VERSIONE SOLO PER COMICIARE DA ZERO.

…E POI HO FATTO QUELLO CHE NON FACCIO QUASI MAI…HO CHIESTO AIUTO A PACO AND JANELLE

Senza Paco e Janelle la mia giacca Cassock sarebbe finita nella spazzatura!

They explained I didn’t need to align those seams. By just aligning the center undersleeve dot with the underarm dot as well as the shoulder dot the sleeves sets beautifully. My mood went from DESPERATE TO OVER THE MOON in the time it takes to unpick and set in those sleeves again!

But it’s not all a happy ending…as my coat is unlined I wanted to finish the pockets with French seams and didn’t follow Paco’s tutorial…and below is the result…the side seams don’t lie flat!

Mi hanno spiegato che non dovevo far combaciare le cuciture. Semplicemente allineando il punto sulla sottomanica con quello sul giromanica e al tempo stesso allineando il puntino sulla spalla avrei inserito la manica senza problemi. Sono passata dall DISPERAZIONE ALL´EUFORIA nel breve arco di tempo necessario a scucire e ricucire le maniche per l’ennesima volta!

Ma non è un finale completamente felice…visto che ho lasciato la giacca sfoderata volevo rifinire le tasche con cuciture all’inglese e non ho seguito le spiegazioni di Paco…di seguito vedete il risultato…la cuciture laterali non rimangono piatte!

In any case despite all the issues…I’m in love with this pattern. So much so I made 2 more versions already...and I would love to make a shorter version later in the year…maybe with lining if I’m not too lazy!

Comunque a parte tutti i problemi…adoro questo modello. Al punto tale che ne ho già cucite altre 2 versioni…e vorrei farne una a giacchina più in là…magari anche con la fodera se non sono troppo pigra!
