Sorry for the wrinkles! This denim fabric is very hard to photograph!

When Paco Peralta released his new Lehenga Skirt Pattern I ordered it on my whim. It reminds me of my flamenco skirts. Plus his patterns are beautifully drafted.
I used this fabric from my stash. It’s very light cotton denim with some stretch. I knew it would be a bit stiff…that’s why I got this mermaid look 😉
I cut a size between S and M. For the length I used the midi lining length and hemmed it at 1/4 (0.5 cm)…but looking at it I could have gone for the midi length…because, you know, I am a whole 5.3″!
Though the pattern doesn’t come with instructions, it’s a super easy make. If you don’t line it as I did, it’s only 3 pattern pieces.

Scusatemi per le pieghe! La stoffa e’ difficilissima da fotografare!

Quando Paco Peralta ha lanciato il nuovo modello della gonna Lehenga l’ho comprata di getto. Mi ricorda le mie gonne di flamenco. E poi i suoi modelli sono disegnati benissimo.

Ho usato della stoffa che avevo. E’ un cotone/jeans con un leggero stretch. Sapevo sarebbe stata un po’ rigida…per questo il risultato e’ questo look da sirena 😉

Ho cucito una taglia tra la S e la M. Per la lunghezza ho usato quella prevista per la fodera e poi ho fatto un orlo di 0,5 cm…guardandola pero’ avrei potuto usare la lunghezza midi….perché in fondo sono alta ben 1 metro e 60!

Anche se il cartamodello non comprende le istruzioni, e’ facilissimo da fare. E se non la foderate ci sono solo 3 pezzi di cartamodello.

When I saw the pattern, I started to envision a dress…so I took the bodice from Simplicity 2588, lengthened it slightly and made the straps narrower. Technically the length would have been enough…except I decided to fit the skirt lower than intended, i.e. below my belly button…that’s why I got an unintended crop top! I’ll have to figure out a way to lengthen it despite not having any fabric left..any ideas?

For the record…making this top was a nightmare! I thought it would be a fast make since I had fitted it before…but then everything stated going wrong… I redid the straps at least 3 times…and despite all my efforts I couldn’t avoid puckering…I am thinking I could cover that up with rhinestones or a trim. Then it was the zipper…I sewed it twice…because you can’t have it zipping upwards (as in a dress) if you expect to fit the top over your head…another lesson learned.

Despite all this, I really wanted to show you Paco’s new pattern. If you like his patterns but are worried about the lack of instructions….this one is a good one to try. You’ll be surprised by your garment constructions skills…and if you have questions, I’d be happy to help!

La cucitura che vedete sul retro non e’ nel cartamodello originale…l’ho aggiunga perché non avevo abbastanza stoffa.

Quando ho visto il modello, ho immaginato un vestito…cosi’ ho preso il corpino del vestito Simplicity 2588, l’ho allungato e ho ridotto la larghezza delle bretelle. In teoria la lunghezza sarebbe stata sufficiente… ma ho deciso di lasciare la gonna a vita bassa…sotto l’ombelico…e quindi mi sono ritrovata con questa pancia in bella mostra! Ora devo trovare il modo di allungarlo pur non avendo altra stoffa….avete qualche idea?

Per la cronaca…cucire il top e’ stato un incubo! Pensavo sarebbe stata una cosa veloce visto che l’avevo gia’ cucito…ma tutto e’ andato storto…ho dovuto cucire le bretelle almeno 3 volte…e nonostante gli sforzi non sono riuscita ad eliminare le pieghine…stavo pensado di coprirle con degli strass o un nastro. Poi c’e’ stata la lampo…l’ho cucita due volte…perché non puoi allacciare la lampo verso l’alto (come in un vestito) se vuoi che poi il top ti passi sopra la testa…mi e’ servito di lezione!

Nonostante tutti gli imprevisti, volevo farvi vedere questo nuovo modello di Paco. Se vi piacciono i suoi modelli ma vi preoccupa l’assenza di istruzioni…questo e’ molto facile. E vi soprenderete delle vostre capacita’ di costruzione di modelli…e se avete domande, chiedete pure, sono qui!
