OMG it’s been so hot this week…taking pictures in the sun has proven quite difficult…sorry for all the squinting!

This week’s post is a pattern from Berlin: Liv T-shirt from Pattydoo. A couple of months ago they contacted me as they were launching their English website. I am always thrilled to discover new patterns especially from countries I usually read very little about due to the language barrier!

Ha fatto caldissimo questa settimana…fare le foto sotto il sole e’ stato difficile…scusate per se strizzo gli occhi in tutte le foto!

Questa settimana vi presento un cartamodello che viene da Berlino: la T-shirt Liv di Pattydoo. Un paio di mesi fa mi hanno contattata perche’ avrebbero lanciato il sito in inglese. Io sono sempre entusiasta di scoprire nuovi cartamodelli, soprattutto quelli che provengono da paesi di cui leggo poco a causa della barriera linguistica!

But let’s discover who’s behind these patterns…I asked them to share a bit more!

The pattydoo Designer is a dream Ina and Christian Fischer have long shared and finally managed to make real. The idea was born from Ina’s very popular sewing blog ‘pattydoo’ and allows sewers to select basic patterns and then choose from a variety of neckline, sleeve and hem styles to create a piece tailored to their tastes. All patterns come with detailed video tutorials, to help beginners confidently complete their first projects and to introduce advanced sewers to new techniques.

Ina started her blog, pattydoo in 2012 and after great success in German, it was launched in English. Trained as a seamstress and clothing technician, Ina has posted lots of sewing projects there for both beginners and sewing addicts.  Along with expert sewing videos, free patterns and sewing instructions there are loads of useful sewing tips and tricks.

Ina and Christian have been producing the sewing videos together. Besides his work behind the camera, Christian also keeps an eye out to make sure that beginners will be able to follow Ina’s instructions. Christian edits the videos and, as a designer, is responsible for the look of pattydoo.

Alongside Ina and Christian is Rebecca. She is in responsible for helping build English language pattydoo community. Rebecca was brought up sewing from a young age: my mother was a needlework teacher and I remember proudly holding my first machine sewn seam when I was about 6 years old. She then went on a weekend pattern drafting course, run by a fabulous woman called Betty Foster, who had a mathematics background, when she was 15 and her way of doing things completely appealed to her. Since then she have really been self taught and taken basic principles to make the things I want. She is obsessed by Liberty Tana Lawn fabric and will find any excuse to use it.

As you can tell they are a very passionate team who love everything sewing!

Ma scopriamo chi c’e’ dietro questi cartamodelli…ho chiesto di raccontarci la loro storia!

pattydoo Designer è il sogno che Ina and Christian Fischer avevano da tempo e finalmente sono riusciti a farlo diventare realtà. Nasce dal successo del blog di Ina pattydoo e consente alle persone di creare il proprio cartamodello partendo da un disegno di base e scegliendo lo scollo, le maniche e l´orlo in base ai propri gusti e crere un capo unico. Tutti i cartamodelli sono accompagnati da video che aiutano anche le persone che sono agli inizi a completare il proprio capo e insegnano alle persone con conoscenze più avanzate delle nuove tecniche.

Ina ha lanciato il suo blog pattydoo nel 2012 e dopo il successo in tedesco ha deciso di tradurlo in inglese. Grazie alla sua formazione da modellista e stilista, Ina ha condiviso progetti per principianti e persone con livello piu´ avanzato. Oltre ai video professionali, a cartamodelli gratuiti e istruzioni sul sito di trovano preziosi consigli di cucito.

Ina e Christian producono insieme i video. Christian presta particolare attenzione alle spiegazioni per far sì che siano comprensibili anche ai principianti assoluti. Inoltre monta i video e grazie alla sua formazione si occupa della grafica del sito.

Oltre a Ina e Christian, c’è Rebecca. Lei è responsabile della gestione della community in inglese. Rebecca ha imparato a cucire da piccola. Sua mamma insegnava ricamo. Lei ricorda di aver cucito per la prima volta a macchina a 6 anni. Poi a 15 anni ha seguito dei corsi di modellistica nel weekend. I corsi erano tenuti da una donna fantastica, Betty Foster, che grazie alla sua formazione matematica aveva un modo insegnare che le piaceva molto. Da allora ha continuato ad imparare da sola e ha usato le conoscenze acquisite per creare quello che desidera. Rebecca ha un´ossessione per i tessuti Liberty Tana Lawn e trova qualsiasi scusa per usarli.

Come vedete sono un team di persone appassionate che adorano il cucito!

I found the instructions and pdf assembly pretty straight forward. I only found the details on the bottom band missing…I used those for the wide sleeve cuffs instead.

You see…originally I printed the long sleeved version with cuffs but didn’t have any fabric left…so the contrast sleeves and binding were an afterthought!

As you may have noticed the wrap around neck binding is cut off…I just wanted to show you how NOT to do it. When I decided to follow the Liv T-shirt variation tutorial I didn’t pay close attention to the pictures. Instead I cut the binding following the ‘regular’ neckline…when I realized my mistake I had already topstiched…unpicking those seams (see below) would have damaged my shirt…there’s always room for learning!

Io ho trovato le istruzioni e la costruzione del cartamodello in pdf facile da seguire. Mancavano solo i dettagli sul bordo in fondo…ho usato quelli delle maniche.

Vedete…avevo stampato il cartamodello con le maniche lunghe e i polsini…ma non avevo più stoffa…quindi le maniche a contrasto e il bordino sono state improvvisate!

Come avrete forse notato il bordino del collo è tagliato…volevo farvi vedere come NON farlo. Quando ho deciso di seguire le spiegazioni per la variazione non ho fatto attenzione alle foto. Ho seguito le istruzioni del cartamodello e ho tagliato il bordino come indicato per il collo ´normale´…quando me ne sono resa conto avevo già cucito le impunture…scucirle (vedi sotto) avrebbe danneggiato la maglietta… si impara sempre!

In terms of sizing the pattern reflects the measurement chart…however I am pretty fussy with sleeves…and I should have made them more fitted!

As for the length I find it perfect to wear with leggings…you could even lengthen it more and turn it into a dress.

Per quanto riguarda la taglia, rispecchia le misure riportate sul cartamodello… purtroppo sono piuttosto esigente con le maniche…avrei dovuto stringerle!

Trovo che la lunghezza sia perfetta per i leggings… si potrebbe anche allungare un po’ e farla diventare un vestito.

All in all I am happy with this new top and grateful to have discovered a new pattern brand that also caters for children and men (only in German). I hope that they will soon translate all their styles to English and possibly other languages…though I believe that with some sewing experience they don’t pose any problems.

In conclusione sono contenta di questa nuova maglietta e di aver soperto una nuova marca che ha anche cartamodelli per bambini e da uomo (solo in tedesco). Spero che tradurranno presto tutti i cartamodelli in inglese e magari anche in altre lingue…anche se credo che con un po’ di esperienza si possano cucire anche senza istruzioni.
