Just back from 5 fantastic days at Abilmente. I had a feeling it was going to be something special and it was simply unforgettable. The energy on those days, the laughter, chats, sharing and the emotions were impressive.

Di ritorno da 5 giorni fantastici ad Abilmente. Mi sentivo che sarebbe stato speciale ed è stato indimenticabile. L’energia di quei giorni, le risate, le chiacchiere, la condivisione e le emozioni sono state impressionanti. On the right-hand side was our DIY Fashion Atelier (the designers were opposite)…getting ready for the big opening in the early hours. We were supposed to introduce indie designers for the first time at this fair to an audience who, for the most part, is either used to sewing from magazines or drafting their own patterns using their measurements (that’s how sewing is still taught in Italy) was an exciting challenge and a glimpse in human psychology ;o).

On the first two days we actually get some sewing done (by the end I had made three garments instead of the 8 I had planned). But over the weekend it was mainly explaining concepts, giving tips, advice…and interpreting. I put my language training to a good use! All in all it was very busy, hardly time for eating (thankfully Marie looked after me!) or the ladies room.

A destra il nostro Atelier Moda Fai da Te (gli stand delle stiliste erano di fronte a noi)…mentre ci preparavamo per l´apertura di mattina presto. Il nostro compito era di spiegare i cartamodelli indipendenti a visitatori che, per la maggior parte, sono abituati a cucire da riviste o a disegnare i propri cartamodelli con le loro misure (insomma il modo tradizionale di insegnare taglio e cucito in Italia). E´ stata una sfida entusiasmante e uno scorcio di psicologia umana.

Nei primi giorni siamo anche riuscite a cucire (ho cucito 3 degli 8 capi previsti). Ma durante il fine settimana ho passato la maggior parte del tempo a spiegare concetti, dar consigli e suggerimenti…e fare l´interprete. Ho sicuramente fatto buon uso delle lingue che ho studiato! Era affollatissimo con tempo a malapena per mangiare (per fortuna Marie si è occupata di me!) o andare in bagno.

I managed to sew a shortened It Robe while at Abilmente just to wear it on our last day. Funny enough it was only through this picture I realized how much taller than me she is! I was convinced I wasn’t that much shorter than her 😉

Con Marie di Aime comme Marie (se non conoscete ancora i suoi modelli andate a dare un´occhiata) e la fantastica Flavia. Sono riuscita a cucire la It Robe in versione corta mentre ero ad Abilmente per indossarla l´ultimo giorno. E’ stato divertente scoprire quanto più alta di me fosse solo da questa foto! Mi illudevo di essere più alta 😉

Singer had a vintage sewing machine exhibition to celebrate its 100 years in Italy…the one in the middle is the one I learned to sew on!

Sono sicura che conoscete Anna: è carina come il suo sorriso. Quanti Aime comme Mix posso fare? Ne ho già 4…e ne farò ancora.

Singer aveva una mostra di modelli d’epoca per i 100 anni in Italia. Quella del centro è la stessa su cui ho imparato a cucire!

Chatting to Annika and Sasha was great. What I loved about spending 5 days with them is that you can actually have real conversations….though they were often interrupted by visitors coming. Marte (Compagnie M) is just a genius. I am still impressed by the stand they fully built themselves and all their techy bits. And you may recognize my dress. She was a real attention grabber despite being there just as display. She was even featured on Italian Newspaper La Repubblica.

Chiacchiare con Annika e Sasha è stao fantastico. La cosa che ho apprezzato di più di questi 5 giorni con loro è che si riesce a fare delle conversazioni…anche se erano spesso interrotte da visitatori. Marte (Compagnie M) è un genio. Lo stand che hanno costruito con le loro mani e tutti i loro gadget mi hanno lasciata a bocca aperta. E forse riconoscere il mio vestito che è stato una vera star anche se era lì solo per display. Siete stati in molti a venirmi a salutare. Purtroppo non ho fatto tutte le foto che avrei dovuto. E’ stato fantastico incontrare persone che conoscevo solo dai blog e anche amiche di vecchia data.

Conoscervi di persona è stata sicuramente il clou di questa esperienza.

Grazie a tutti voi dal profondo del cuore perché seguite il mio blog. Senza di voi non avrei mai avuto quest’opportunità!
