By now you may have heard about the Bloggers Writing Secrets Blog Hop…actually that’s not even the official name, I just made it up!

Anyhow, Alessa from Farbenfreude asked me if I would like to join in and I thought it would be fun (and somewhat scary) to ask myself those questions and in turn sharing those dark secrets with you!

Forse avrete sentito parlare del Tour sui segreti delle blogger…in realta’ il nome nome l’ho appena inventato!

Alessa di Farbenfreude mi ha chiesto se volessi partecipare e ho pensato fosse una bella idea (anche se mi spaventava un po’) di pormi queste domande e poi condividere questi tremendi segreti con voi!

Why do I write? – Perché scrivo?

 

My first project on the blog – Il mio primo capo sul blog

That’s a good question! The main reason why I started the blog back in June 2010 was the feeling I had been using all the free sewing knowledge and inspiration available online and it was my turn to give back.

Then there was the part of me who wanted connect with people from around the world who shared my sewing passion (nerdiness??) and were sewing things that were not soft toys or grandma stuff (note: my grandma, a manic crocheter and great cook, was a great source of crafty inspiration so it’s not all negative!). You see, I had just moved country going from a larger city to a small town, was missing my friends (still do) and the only person I could share my sewing passion was my mom (Hi Mom!)

I had loads of ideas for the blog and its impact:

• I had this dream of sharing tutorials, creating gazillion garments, learning new techniques and taking about them on the blog…
• I was hoping I could show that sewing is trendy again and inspire other people to take it up…
• I was hoping that a cool sewing café would just be opening around the corner so that maybe I could teach there on weekends…

Clearly I didn’t realize how much time writing a blog would take not to mention garment creation…so I scaled down my plans to blogging once a week to share my work… that cool sewing café never materialized.

Buona domanda! Il motivo principale che mi ha spinta a cominciare un blog a giugno 2010 è che avevo la sensazione di aver approfittato abastanza dell’ispirazione e conoscenze disponibili gratuitamente online ed era ora di contribuire.

Poi c’era una parte di me che voleva entrare in contatto con altre persone in tutto il mondo che appassionate (fissate?) come me di cucito e che cucissero cose che non fossero peluches e cose ´della nonna´ (nota: mia nonna, grande appassionata di uncinetto e ottima cuoca, è stata per me grande fonte di ispirazione creativa, fino a 9 anni mi ha insegnato un po´ di uncinetto,  quindi non è tutto negativo). E poi, avevo appena cambiato paese ed ero passata da una città a un paesino, mi mancavano i miei amici (ancora è così) e l’unica persona con cui potevo condividere la mia passione era con mia mamma al telefono (Ciao Mamma!)

Avevo tantissime idee sul blog e sull’impatto che avrebbe avuto:

• Sognavo di condividere spiegazioni, creare migliaia di capi, imparare nuove tecniche per poi parlarne nel bogo
• Pensavo che sarei riuscita a dimostrare che il cucito era di nuovo in voga e far venire voglia ad altri di lanciarsi in questo hobby…
• Speravo che un atelier di cucito super alla moda avrebbe aperto dietro l´angolo e magari avrei potuto insegnare li’ di tanto in tanto nel weekend o per lo meno incontrare altre appassionate.

Chiaramente non mi ero resa conto di quanto tempo ci volesse a scrivere un blog per non parlare di quanto tempo ci voglia a cucire…quindi ho rivisto i miei piani e ho deciso di pubblicare una volta a settimana e far vedere quello che faccio…e quel fantastico ateriel di cucito non ha mai visto la luce.

What am I working on? – A cosa sto lavorando?

I have just finished a bag and a pair of pants and am planning to blog about it soon.

As for work in progress, I recently bought Kate wrap dress pattern by Stylearc and can’t wait to get started on it.

However, that may have to wait a couple of weeks since I need to prepare for Abilmente craft fair workshops.

Ho appena finito una borsa e un paio di pantaloni e li pubblicherò presto sul blog.

Intanto ho recentemente comprato il cartamodello di Stylearc per un vestito a portafoglio (Kate Dress) e non vedo l´ora di cominciare.

Ma il vestito dovrà aspettare ancora qualche settimana perché devo prepararmi per i workshop di Abilmente. 

How does it differ from others of its genre? – Come si distingue da blog dello stesso genere?

This is a hard question to answer. I don’t think I am doing anything out of this world in terms of sewing. Mine is a bilingual essentially women garment sewing blog, I review La Mia Boutique, the Italian sewing magazine and whenever possible I try to get a nice backdrop location for my photos.

Well, perhaps there is one thing that I don’t do: I don’t exclusively sew from independent patterns. I like sewing from magazines, drafting or modifying existing patterns.

Questa è una domanda difficile. Non credo di fare niente di spettacolare in termini di cucito. Il mio è un blog bilingue essenzialmente su cucito di abiti da donna. Trovate recensioni de La Mia Boutique e appena possibile cerco di trovare un bello sfondo per  le mie foto.

Ah, forse c’e’ una cosa che non faccio: non cucio solo modelli di stilisti indipendenti. Mi piace usare riviste, modificare cartamodelli e disegnarne qualcuno.

How does my writing process work? – Qual è il mio processo di scrittura?

Usually it happens over the weekend when I have more time. A post fro me always starts with the pictures selection. Then I try to tell a story about what I made and highlight issues I faced and modifications I had to make.

Generally, I try to keep my writing short as I know people read many blogs and don’t have much time to read my text. I wish I could master writing like Karen from Did you make that and write engaging posts, but I don’t. So I try to remain true to my nature and share my sewing enthusiasm as I can.

Di solito scrivo durante il fine settimana quando ho più tempo a disposizione. Comincio sempre dalla selezione delle foto. Poi cerco di raccontare le modifiche apportate ed evidenziare eventuali difficoltà.

Cerco di non scrivere troppo perché so che tutti leggono molti blog e non hanno molto tempo per leggere il mio testo. Mi piacerebbe saper scrivere bene come Karen di Did you make that e scrivere post appassionanti…ma non è il caso. Quindi cerco di essere me stessa e condividere la mia passione come posso.
