It’s that time of the year again…end of August, summer is nearly over (though I am still hoping for a BBQ at the end of September) and here I am catching up with my mental sewing wish list.
Miserably I didn’t achieve my overly optimistic planning, but at least I managed to use this fabric I bought over two years ago in Barcelona to make another Burda 09/2012 #108/#109 Dress
Last year it was the same…I made it even later.
Ci siamo di nuovo…fine Agosto, l’estate e’ quasi finita (anche se spero ancora di fare una grigliata a fine settembre) ed eccomi qui a cercare di finire tutti i progetti della lista del cucito che ho scritto in testa.
Purtroppo non sono riuscita a completare quanto ottimisticamente pianificato, ma almeno sono riuscita ad usare la stoffa comprata due anni fa a Barcellona per fare un’altro vestito Burda 09/2012 #108/#109
E’successa la stessa cosa l’anno scorso…anzi l’avevo finito a settembre inoltrato.
Since I had already made all the adjustments before this time it was much quicker (note to self: reuse patterns more!)
The dress is fully underlined with muslin since the fabric is a sheer cotton (don’t know if we could call it voile)
The armholes and neckline are finished with orange bias binding. I used orange nail polish on the otherwise white slider 😉
The dress is blind-hemmed by hand…I am one of those who doesn’t like machine blind-hemming 😉
Visto che il cartamodello era già bello e pronto, cucire il vestito è stato molto veloce (da ricordare: cerca di riusare i cartamodelli più spesso!)
Il vestito è cucito doppio con uno strato di mussola di cotone (praticamente si cuciono insieme due strati di tessuto. In inglese si dice underlining, qui viene spiegato…poi se qualcuno sa dirmi la traduzione in italiano ve ne sarei davvero grata)
Il giromanica e lo scollo sono rifiniti con sbieco arancione. E ho colorato con lo smalto arancione il tassello della lampo bianca 😉
L’orlo invisibile è cucito a mano…non mi piace quello fatto a macchina 😉

I really like this dress and since last year I have been planning to make a winter version…the fabric is waiting in my stash.
Will you still be squeezing is some summer projects…or winter for those of you down under?
Adoro le pinces di questo vestito. Il modello è molto simile a quello di Simplicity Jiffy 1609 che ne riproduce uno degli anni 60.
Dall’anno scorso vorrei farne una versione invernale con della stoffa che ho già….speriamo di farcela.
E voi…continuate a cucire abiti estivi?

That fabric is gorgeous, and I love how you picked a pretty simple pattern to show it off, but with just enough detail to make it interesting. Those darts break up the pattern in a fun but not too distracting way.
I’m trying to get started on some autumn/winter sewing, but I still have some summer projects to finish—most importantly, a summer dress that I promised my sister and that she still needs for a vacation to a warmer climate.

I like this pattern too, these darts – in Russia they are called ‘French darts’ – shape the figure perfectly. I also like the print -it is like the arctic lights but with a southern touch)
I have one unfinished summer project -a linen dress for a contest. My dog sprained her hip joint and tore the ligamnet and the joint capsule. so we came through the surgery (she had a special wire inserted into the joint) and a long period of looking after. The wire will be removed soon and I hope I’ll have time to finish the dress and put it into the wardrobe till next summer.
As for autumn/winter projects -oh, plenty of them, but tomorrow is the beginning of a school year and I am starting working, so ….well, looking for an autumn school break to make something warm and cozy)

This dress is lovely and could easily be styled with tights/boots/cardi for the cooler autumnal days ahead. And you are looking radiant!
My last summer project is a polka dot maxi dress, which will serve as a casual party dress for cool evenings with a shrug.

It’s sometimes hard to see a dress styled different ways. I’m rubbish at doing it for myself.
The blue/white spot is cotton lawn. I’m hoping to get some sewing time this week to get it done…I’m planning to wear it at a party on the 20th so need to crack on!

What a pretty dress! I really like the darts (I think those kind are called French darts?), and that fabric is lovely! I think the colours are very fitting for late summer, and you can also wear it with a cardi during autumn. 🙂
After a bit of a cold spell, we’ve been getting some more mild weather and I’m hoping we’ll get some more warm days, as there are some more short-sleeved dresses I really want to make…
