This jacket makes me feel very British…the fabric comes from Clothspot the UK (you may remember my skirt) and the pattern was a gift from Evie when we met in London. I got the inspiration from this picture

I love this pattern! Just the right length and the classic fitted style I like! And shall we talk about the two-piece sleeve??? How cool is that!

It was not a quick project though…It must have taken me at least one month to finish it. I didn’t make a muslin as this Amazing Fit pattern has a 1 inch seam allowance built in. So I basted the seams first and adjusted from there.

Wondering what size I made??? It’s a size 8. Guess what size I should have made according to the  measurements? A 12! I don’t really understand how those Simplicity people (and Big 4 in general) size their patterns! There’s a huge ease and just plain mis-sizing, I think! So I strongly suggest you check the final measurements on the actual pattern sheets.

What I like about this pattern is that there are three cup sizes you can choose from. A to C…I guess I don’t need to tell you what I chose, right? And I even had to remove some breastiness (forgive my poetic licence) that still needs to be ironed out properly!

The only other two alterations were slightly shortening the sleeves and making a forward shoulder adjustment.

Mi sento molto inglese con questa giacca…ho comprato la stoffa da Clothspot in Inghilterra (forse ricorderete la gonna) e il cartamodello è un regalo che mi ha fatto Evie quando ci siamo incontrate a Londra. L’inspirazione viene da questa foto London. 

Adoro questo modello! La lunghezza è perfetta e lo stile avvitato un po´ classico è quello che preferisco. Per non parlare della manica in due parti! Non è fantastica?

Non è stato un progetto rapido direi…ci ho messo almeno un mese a finire la giacca. Non ho neanche fatto un capo di prova visto che questo modello della Amazing Fit aveva gia’ degli ampi margini di cucitura compresi (2,5 cm), quindi ho imbastito tutto a macchina e fatto direttamente le modifiche.

E volete sapere che taglia ho cucito??? una 8…e indovinate quale avrei dovuto cucire secondo le misure indicate? Una 12! Veramente non capisco come quelli di Simplicity creino le taglie! Aggiungono dei margini di vestibilita’ da elefante quindi secondo me tutte le loro taglie sono sbagliate. Quindi se usate i loro modelli controllate bene le misure finali del capo indicate sulle parti del modello stesse per evitare problemi!

Una cosa buona di questi modelli e´ che includono tre coppe. Dalla A alla C…immagino non debba dirvi quale ho scelto, giusto? E ho dovuto anche togliere un po´ di coppa e ancora si nota dalle cuciture.

Le altre due modifiche sul modello sono state accorciare le maniche e modificare la cucitura per compensare la curvatura della spalla.

BTW, I don’t like my hair on these pictures…it was a good reality check!

Though you can’t really see it I made bound buttonholes too! They didn’t come out as perfect as I would have liked but the busy print and tick fabric disguises it quite well.

Tra parentesi…non mi piace per niente la mia pettinatura…vedere queste foto è stato davvero utile!

Anche se non si vede dalle foto, ho fatto degli occhielli profilati. Non sono perfetti ma per fortuna il motivo e lo spessore della stoffa li nascondono abbastanza.

The taffeta lining makes this jacket feel very luxurious…my biggest disappointment came when I realized I should have fitted the lining rather than the woollen jacket first…Why? Taffeta has less give than wool so the jacket is a tad tight especially when buttoned up! Next time I will let out 1cm (3/8) at the sides

The other detail I don’t quite like are the sleeve heads I added on top of the shoulder pads… Next time I will leave those out!

La fodera di taffeta rende il capo prezioso…peccato non essermi resa conto che questa stoffa è più rigida della lana. Quindi avrei dovuto provare la fodera prima…purtroppo la giacca rimane leggermente stretta specialmente quando la porto abbottonata! La prossima volta dovrò allargarla un pochino ai lati.

L´altra cosa che non mi piace è che le spalline sono troppo grandi perche’ ho aggiunto in prolilo di lana oltre alle spalline vere e proprie. La prossima volta evito.

The sleeve lining was a pain to assemble. Though the pattern instructions are extremely detailed, Simplicity rushed that part. So much so that they don’t tell you the lining should be cut differently from the fashion fabric. So there I was trying to figure out how to do it. I felt like when you try and squeeze a mismatched puzzle piece in…hoping it might fit. Well, no it doesn’t!

I checked the web looking for an answer and eventually found it on Pattern Scissor and Cloth (hope Sherry is doing fine!). The problem was my sleeves and lining were pretty much assembled at that stage so I had to rip stitches and all!

I am still wondering if I should add an extra button to the sleeves…what do you think?

La parte più complicata della giacca è stata la fodera delle maniche. Le istruzioni di Simplicity sono molto dettagliate tranne che per quella parte. Non ti dicono neanche che la fodera deve essere tagliata in modo diverso. Quindi mi sono ritrovata a cercar di far combaciare i pezzi di un puzzle a forza…peccato non abbia funzionato.

Alla fine ho cercato in giro sul web e ho ritrovato un tutorial di Sherry su Pattern Scissor and Cloth. L’unico problema è stato dover scucire le maniche e ricominciare da capo!

Che dite, devo aggiungere un altro bottone alle maniche?

Comunque sono soddisfatta del risultato. grazie ancora ad Evie per avermi regalato il cartamodello. Cucire un capo di lana è fantastico. Vorrei proprio fare un’altra giacca l’anno prossimo!
