I saved the best for last…a daring twist-back top! My last summer project.
You may remember the pattern from La Mia Boutique 09/2013 issue. This was the second most loved pattern! And rightly so! The design is by Italian Designer Chiara Boni – Petite Robe
It reminds me of Pattern magic by Tomoko Nakamichi and of the gorgeous Belladonne by Deer and Doe

I was lucky enough to find this fabric in the bargain bin at the only fabric store in my town. I didn’t find the black jersey I needed but I didn’t come home empty handed!
The pattern has some cool dart placement that unfortunately gets lost in the print. You even have back darts for a snug fit. You can see the magazine pattern pictures on the original scan from Paunnet
Sono stata fortunata: ho trovato la stoffa tra gli scampoli nell’unico negozio di stoffa della mia città. Non ho trovato il jersey nero che cercavo ma non sono tornata a casa a mani vuote!
Il modello ha delle pinces posizionate in modo davvero interessante che purtroppo si perdono nella fantasia della stoffa. E ci sono addirittura delle pinces sul dietro per una migliore vestibilità. Potete vedere il modello originale su Paunnet
I had to take a whole 1 inch off the shoulders to avoid gaping. And I also figured out smoothly assemble the sleeve and facings. Basically you join the shoulder seams at last. First, you pull out the unsewn shoulder seams from the facing opening at the front waistline. Then you join the shoulder seam in the round. I realize some picture would explain it better but I had the light-bulb moment after have ripped the serged seams, it was dark and I was eager to finish.
I followed the original design and left the hem without any seams. I simply cut it with the rotary cutter.
Ho dovuto accorciare le spalle di ben 2,5 cm altrimenti cadevano. Ho anche capito come cucire le spalle e la paramontura. Praticamente si devono cucire le spalle per ultime. Prima, bisogna tirar fuori le spalle non ancora cucite dalla fodera del davanti, da sotto. Poi si cuce la spalla in tondo. Mi rendo conto che con delle foto sarebbe stato meglio capire. Purtroppo quando mi si è accesa la lampadina in testa avevo già scucito le cuciture fatte con la taglia e cuci, era buio e non vedevo l’ora di finire.
Ho seguito le istruzioni del modello originale e ho lasciato l’orlo a vivo. L’ho semplicemente tagliato con la rotella.
This picture is just to show you that the wrinkles you see in the opening photo are just from the posture…but I like the top one better!
What I really like about this top is that it looks like a regular boat neck from the front…but when you turn around a surprise awaits you. Not to mention, you can wear a cardi if you don’t want to ‘flash’ your back!
Questa foto è solo per farvi vedere che le pieghe che si vedono nella foto di apertura sono dovute alla postura….ma quella foto mi piaceva di più!
La cosa che mi piace di più di questo modello è che da davanti sembra un normale top con scollo a barchetta…ma quando ti giri c’è la sorpresa. E per di più puoi sempre metterti un maglioncino per coprire la schiena!

This is sexy! I can already imagine 20 variations from different fabrics 🙂 I like how it highlights you curves and puts nice accents on your figure! Adorable, absolutely lovely! From the practical vs technical point of view, I like the twist on top of the back opening better than on Belladonne dress, especially for people like you and me with “wings”. With the twist rounded back does not look so “in your eyes”. Did I actually say how much I like it as much as the entire September issue? o(≧∇≦o)

Io io io ho fatto un pattern magic… lo spencer “straight lines and curves” che ricorda (come dice l’autrice) un dorso di cammello… e mi sono molto divertita, disegnare il modello e poi cucirlo è stato esilarante!
