Have you packed your bags? I’m taking you with me on a short trip to Innsbruck. It was one hour away from Südtirol…So I couldn’t miss the chance to visit Austria for the first time.
The city is beautifully surrounded by mountains. Must be the perfect place to live if you enjoy skiing.

The pattern I chose is a modified Sabrina tunic. I was inspired by an Armani top, but was lazy to draft the princess seams…and I actually doubt I would have had enough fabric as I only bought 1 meter of this

Fabric Shopping in Innsbruck
This was definitely the high-end dirdnl store…some were silk. Prices went over 1000 euros/1300 USD/850 pounds! No wonder Burda offers patterns you can make yourself! But if you are tempted to see their gorgeous collection, check out Gössl online store
Though I wouldn’t know where to wear a dirndl I was really tempted to go in and try it on…but I didn´t.
Instead I crossed town for find a fabric store!
Textile Mueller
This store has several locations in Austria. The place is packed with fabric and the prices are very low…but there´s so much in such a little space that you really need to go in with a shopping list and armed with patience.
When I went it was super hot and there´s no airco inside. Plus the fabric is neatly stacked from floor to ceiling, e.g. you need a ladder to climb. But what made matters worse was the tiny aisles. You had to wait for a person to come in before you could have a look. Not a pleasant experience. I saw some fabric I liked but left empty handed in the end. I guess I just lost my patience and got too hot.
All in all, I would recommend this store in the winter with a clear idea of what you need.

Kapferer Stoffe
On one of the main streets close to the square you see in the picture above is Kapferer Stoffe.The store is on two floors. Much more airy where you can find garment fabric, notions, some quilting cottons and Burda patterns. Prices were higher but it was a nicer experience than Textile Mueller. And being on the tourist path you won´t need much time to see it.

I love the Alps, they are so majestic! My friend works in a hotel in Austria and she has to wear Dirndls as her uniform (not the 1000€ versions though).
