Here is my pride and joy Vogue 8648 – Couture Dress! Thanks to Susan Khalje’s Craftsy course I can finally wear it (praying for some cold weather given the season)

Ecco il vestito che mi e’ costato tanto sudore Vogue 8648 – Couture Dress. Grazie al corso di Craftsy tenuto da Susan Khalje lo posso finalmente mettere (spero solo in un po’ di freddo!)

How did I come to  this dress?

I ordered the wrong size so had to grade it to a 12

Muslin 1: it was huge at the back so I took it in by approx 1/2 inch at the two back seams and sides. The front seams were ok….I am still wondering why. I also followed Susan’s advice and made the back higher.

Muslin 2: I narrowed the armscye that was impairing movement….still I was not happy with the fit

Muslin 3: I took my bodice block are redrafted the armscye and sleeve based on that….The sleeve fit is still not 100% as you can see from the pictures but I didn’t know how to make it better without a tailor helping me out… (I need someone to properly fit my sleeves!)

Come sono arrivata a questo vestito?

Ho ordinato una taglia troppo grande e ho dovuto ridurla a una taglia 12.

Prova 1: mi stava grandissimo sul dietro e ho dovuto stringerlo di 1 cm sulle cuciture posteriori e sui lati. Le cuciture anteriori andavano bene… mi chiedo ancora il perche’. Ho anche seguito il consiglio di Susan e alzato la parte posteriore.

Prova 2: ho stretto il giromanica perche’ non riuscivo ad alzare il braccio…ma non ero ancora contenta.

Prova 3: ho tirato fuori il mio modello di base e ho ridisegnato completamente il giromanica e la manica… Non sono ancora soddisfatta al 100% delle maniche come vedete dalle foto…ma non sapevo come migliorarle senza l’aiuto di un sarto… (ho bisogno di aiuto per le maniche!)

 

Finally I was ready to cut out my fabric…just one more alteration…I went for a continuous inset band so the lace design would be continuous.

Fast forward to loads of hand stitching later…

Finalmente ero pronta per tagliare la stoffa…ma prima un’altra modifica… ho tagliato la fascia centrale come un’unica striscia per far si’ che il disegno del pizzo fosse continuo.

Dopo aver cucito tantissimi punti a mano…

Time to put in the zipper…despite all the careful measuring the lace band is still slightly off and so is the top…at this point it was impossible to fix it…so I will live with it.

E’ ora di cucire la lampo… nonostante abbia misurato tutto con precisione la striscia di pizzo e’ disallineata di pochi millimetri e anche la parte superiore…purtroppo a quel punto non potevo piu’ modificare nulla…mi devo accontentare.

Wondering what I was thinking on this shot? “Please make look like Monica Bellucci in the Dolce and Gabbana ad campaign”…Clearly I still have some work to do…
