Burda skirt 116 2010/9 – Gonna Burda 116 2010/9

Lately I seem to be working on rather time consuming projects. I left you a few weeks ago with a tutorial on the back vent for Burda skirt 116 2010/9…which was actually my second attempt at this project. So, here is the final skirt on me!

As you will probably notice the skirt looks much longer than on the original. I have been wondering where the issue was. Also on Burda the skirt falls below the knee…and I believe I have the solution…The model is too tall! No, I know that’s not the correct answer, but I’d love to think so. Burda regular patterns are made for women approx. 3.5 inches taller than me and that difference must be spread between the legs and the torso lenght. Notice how much longer the length between the knee and foot is.
The sad part is that with such a skirt design the alteration would be a rather lengthy process. So, I decided against it….I may get taller as I grow older!

On the first version the zipper turned out a bit wonky. This one is much better.

Remember my vent lining headaches?

YES, Dear Burda, you made it hard for me, but I eventually succeeded!. Perseverance is a key asset when sewing. What do you think?

  1. Well, I think it looks great and your perseverance definitely paid off! I also like the curved lines at the top (a great style detail) and how nice the colour looks paired with purple. The possibilities are endless – well done!

  2. You look beautiful!

Patterns are made for a very small portion of the population, that is for sure. The average American woman is under 5′ 4″ but the patterns are for about 5′ 8″ or more and a B cup. So if you are short and busty, sewing for yourself is more headache than it is worth!
