Two challenges ahead: Summer essentials sew-along and 31 Days to Building a Better Blog

Summer is starting and I thought it would be fun to give myself two challenges:

Joining Summer essentials sew-along 2011 is a celebration of my first year blogging and getting into the wonderful sewing community. When I joined last year I pushed myself to write a blog, so I couldn’t miss it this year. Thanks to Ali, Alessa and Sarah for organising it.

Here is my plan, according to priority…

Sweet & Sassy Skirts: a new version of Easy Swing Skirt for me where I will replace the elastic with a fitted waistband and zipper, and the “original” pattern for my mom

Tees, Tunics & Blouses: a princess-seam linen top, and two more tops using some funky and colorful fabric from Africa (pattern TBD)

The Sundress: it will be a sheath dress for work

Clamdiggers & Co: I will aim to make another pair of trousers similar to Annie trousers…without pockets

Accessorize Me!: a simple drawstring bag and the buttercup bag I’ve been dying to make.

Possibly this will be too much, but since I won’t be taking much vacation this summer I am hoping to finish it all.

How to Blog
As for the 31 Days to Building a Better Blog aka 31DBBB June challenge, I found this fabulous website and community called TheSitsGirls (which stands for The Secret of Success is Support) and the were just starting a challenge with daily assignments that you get to post through their forum. I am joining casually without working into a group since I don’t know if I will have time to finish all tasks.

So far it’s been a great experience. I find it a nice idea to get tips on blogging and meet other women bloggers…if you want to join, it will be fun!

A week into the challenge the tasks were

  • Day 01 Write an Elevator Speech
  • Day 02 Write A List Post
  • Day 03: Promote a Blog Post
  • Day 04: Analyze a Top Blog in Your Niche
  • DAY 05: Email a Blog Reader
  • Day 06: 27 Must-Read Tips and Tutorials for Bloggers

I still haven’t worked through today’s challenge. So far, the hardest has been Day 1 assignment which I only completed today…

What do you think of my elevator pitch? I could definitely use some advice… Have you ever thought of an elevator pitch for your blog?

Option 1
Sewing and traveling inspiration

Option 2
My sewing journey through the world

Option 3
A journey through sewing my own wardrobe, pattern drafting and getting involved in the sewing community

  1. Yay for joining Summer Essentials, your plan sound great! What pray tell is an elevator speech? All your options sound interesting, though. 🙂

  2. I’m doing 31DBBB too. I like your option #3 – I think having an elevator speech is important when you take your blog/hobby seriously. Thanks for visiting me 🙂 Returning the favor!

  3. I like your third option. It gives me a better idea of what your blog is about.
Sewing & pattern drafting are such great skills to have. I’ve made my own ballroom dance gowns and underwire bras using those skills.
Good luck catching up with the SITS31DBBB. if you need a group to join, you’re welcome in group 9.
Also, there is a blog by one of the bloggers in the SITS31DBBB, about going thru fashion design school that you may enjoy. http://grandmassewingcabinet.com/

  4. Hi Annie, visiting from #31DBBB challenge!

You’re like me, I did a few elevator pitches before getting one to use on my blog – by the way, I like #3 for your’s.

Glad you’re enjoying the challenge, looks like you have more than enough on your plate at the moment – hope you get to do all the things you want to do this summer! Good luck with it all!
